PocketPacket is a comprehensive APRS client featuring an integrated TNC. The APRS protocol, standing for "Automatic Position Reporting System," is widely utilized by amateur radio operators (hams) globally for real-time reporting of position, status, station capabilities, weather data, and other information. Beyond its functionalities for broadcasting announcements or facilitating one-to-one messaging, PocketPacket offers the convenience of a software-based TNC, enabling the direct capture, visualization, encoding, and transmission of 1200 baud packets (AFSK modulation) through a VHF radio transceiver.

Moreover, PocketPacket provides the capability to send and receive packets over the Internet by connecting to one of the available Tier 2 servers within the global APRS-IS network.

The application presents incoming data on a map, displaying objects with specific symbols and locations as most packets define unique objects. Users can select symbols to access the latest information associated with the corresponding object as well as review the raw packets that generated it. Additionally, all available objects are listed for convenient searchability. The platform includes separate screens resembling an email client structure for viewing messages and bulletins.

With PocketPacket, users can monitor moving objects, receive real-time weather reports directly from local stations, submit their station information, monitor the status of the APRS network, and more. Whether for fieldwork or ham shack use, PocketPacket proves to be an invaluable tool for APRS enthusiasts.
